When the great-great-grandfather Thodoris (5 generations back) came down with his family from the village of Alonistaina in Arcadia to the lower areas of Messinia. Before they started working on the olive groves, they were producers of milk and cheese, as well as of raisin, a very widespread product of the Greek land.
When they settled in Mystraki, Messinia, they started cultivating the Koroneiki olive variety that was at least 150 years old. Within three to four years our ancestors had their first harvest and this is how the story of our family unfolds.
The women made the olive cloths from a material, flax, very cool and suitable not to retain moisture
The families used to sprinkle holy water on the olive fields to bring good luck and wealth harvest.
It was used together with some additives as food for the living. So, zero food waste.
The olive oil obtained by koroneiki variety has a balanced taste with a slightly peppery and lemony aftertaste.
